Public Storage (ticker symbol PSA on the New York Stock Exchange) is the largest self-storage facilities Real Estate Investment Trust. It was founded in 1972, and is a member of the S&P 500, plus the Forbes Global 2000.
They manage over 2,100 locations in 38 U.S. states and 7 Western European countries (Denmark, France, Germany, Sweden, The Netherlands, Belgium and The United Kingdom). PSA has over 135 million net rentable square feet.
In many locations, they not only store your belongings, they offer a pickup service as well, truck rental, and long-distance moving. It offers other storage-related services such as insurance and the sale of supplies such as boxes and tape.
PSA Knows Its Business is Helping People Moving
Want to store something that could be damaged by temperature extremes? They offer climate-controlled units. One partner, PS Pickup, offers storage container services in many of their markets.
They also offer rental of industrial and commercial space -- 19 million net rentable square feet in 8 states, through their partner PS Business Parks.
On August 22, 2006 Public Storage merged with Shurgard -- but it appears they bought that company up, since they're still called Public Storage. Shurgard used to be the Number 2 self-storage facilities REIT.
