Avalon Bay Communities, Inc. is a REIT that owns and manages luxury apartment buildings in high barrier to entry areas. They are in business of developing, redeveloping, acquiring and managing these buildings. They are headquartered in Alexandria Virginia.
Their New York Stock Exchange stock ticker symbol is AVB. They owned or had ownership interest in 180 apartment complexes/communities over 51,000 apartments in ten states and the District of Columbia, in sixteen separate markets. 20 communities are under construction, and 10 are under reconstruction.
Avalon was started in 1978, incorporating in the state of California. They became a REIT in 1994. Their portfolio of apartment communities has an average age of six, one of the newest in the industry.
Some of their apartment complexes include: Avalon Dublin Station, Avalon Dublin, Waterford, Crowne Ridge, CountryBrook, Skyway Terrace, Middlesex Crossing, Essex Place, Colonial Towers, The Covington, The Promenade, South Hills, The Springs, Avalon at Cameron Court, Avalon at Arlington Square, Avalon at AutumnWoods, Avalon at Providence Park, Avalon Crescent, Avalon at Foxhall, Avalon at Gallery Place, Avalon Bowery Place, Avalon at Morningside Park, Avalon Pines, Avalon at Glen Cove, Avalon Glen Cove North, Avalon Towers, Avalon Riverview, Avalon Gardens, Avalon White Plains, Avalon at Media Center, Avalon Encino, Avalon Camarillo, Avalon Glendale, Avalon Sunset, Avalon Del Rey, Avalon at Civic Center, Avalon at Warner Center, Avalon Woodland Hills, Avalon Sunset, Avalon Wilshire, Avalon at Center Place, Avalon Foster City, Avalon Pacifica, Avalon Sunset Towers, Avalon Towers by the Bay, Avalon Yerba Buena, and Avalon at Nob Hill.
Avalon Bay is thereby a real estate investment trust profiting from the need for affluent residents of major metropolitan areas for high class apartments.
